CAMO Fellowship Priority annouNcEmentS 2025

Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists (CAMO) Priority Announcement

SUMMARY

The Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists (CAMO) will provide funding for applications that are determined to be relevant to the following research priority areas described below:
  • The field of medical oncology is rapidly changing, with the introduction of new drugs and biologics with an emphasis on targeted therapies, predictive and prognostic markers and translation of new therapies into practice. Medical oncologists wishing to pursue an academic career require further training in basic and clinical research; often completing a graduate degree in the process. To this end, the Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists (CAMO) will support individuals who are completing their Medical Oncology training in Canada to have additional clinical and/or fundamental (basic) research experience. It is expected that this targeted investment will build Canadian capacity and expertise in the area of oncology and will promote excellence in research through training awards.
The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:
  • Address scientific questions/problems related to basic science, clinical or translational research questions in medical oncology, such as new drug development, genetic basis of cancer, prognostic and predictive markers of outcome, and personalized approaches to systemic treatment of solid tumors;
  • Address knowledge translation questions/problems related to integration of new therapies in clinical practice, population health related to cancer including treatment and quality indicators of cancer system performance, health outcomes research; and
  • Develop the capacity in Canada to actively participate in these research areas by providing further training opportunities for medical oncologists completing training in Canada.
Funding will be provided for applications that are determined to be relevant to the following research priority areas:
  • Basic lab research
  • Clinical trials
  • Epidemiology
  • Translational Research
  • Educational research
  • Population health
  • Health Outcomes Research

    • Research related to triple negative, lobular, ER-negative Her2-low, histiocytic and other rare histological forms of breast cancer.
    • Focus may include, but does not need to be not limited to, research related to genomes and genetic mutations and dysregulation, tumor microenvironments, proteins, and tumor markers.
